Logan County Release Meaning
“Released” describes an exit from a particular custodial setting. It does not always mean that a person returned to the community. A Logan County booking can end through bond, a court order, dismissal, time served, probation, transfer to another county jail, commitment to the Kansas Department of Corrections, or movement into federal or immigration custody. The exit event and destination decide which agency holds the useful record.
A person released from a county jail normally drops off its current roster. That roster is built to show who is housed now. It is not a permanent release history. In Logan County, the distinction matters more because the county of arrest and county of confinement may differ. Logan County Sheriff or Oakley Police can appear as the arresting agency while Thomas County Sheriff maintains the housing and exit record in Colby.

Logan County Release Types
The release label should come from the jail, court, or corrections record. Bond permits an exit while the case continues. An own-recognizance release is based on the court’s order without a cash bond. A dismissal ends the charge identified by that disposition, while time served credits the completed jail term. Probation is a court-ordered community sentence. Parole and postrelease supervision follow a state correctional sentence under different Kansas rules.

A detainer is a request or order affecting custody because another authority seeks the person. Its existence can delay or redirect an expected community exit. Ask the housing jail whether another agency took custody rather than treating a completed local case as the final release.
Logan County Release Record Fields
A narrow release-record request should seek the full custody trail. Thomas County’s current roster publishes booking facts, but it does not establish release fields or a released-record retention period. Request the booking and exit records from the actual housing jail. Logan may separately retain the arrest report when its sheriff or Oakley Police made the arrest.

Also ask for the booking photograph when relevant to identifying the record. No Logan- or Thomas-specific fixed photo fee was found. A release sheet may not state every later supervision detail, so compare it with the court disposition or KASPER when state custody followed.
Request Logan County Release Records
Call first to find the custodian. Logan County Sheriff is the local arrest and intake contact. Thomas County Jail is the confirmed serving jail for at least some Logan and Oakley arrests. If Thomas housed the person, Thomas may keep the release sheet and jail image while Logan keeps the arrest report.

Kansas Release Record Law
The Kansas Open Records Act, K.S.A. 45-215 through 45-223, favors inspection unless another rule permits withholding. K.S.A. 45-218 governs access, response, custodian redirection, and fee authority. An agency must act by the end of the third business day. Production may take longer when retrieval or redaction is needed, and reasonable actual-cost fees or prepayment may apply.
K.S.A. 45-217 excludes jail rosters from the definition of criminal investigation records, which supports a precise request for existing roster or release-log material. It does not make every field public. Juvenile, medical, security-sensitive, sealed, expunged, or otherwise protected information may be withheld. K.S.A. 22-4705 separately identifies release from detention as a reportable event, reinforcing that release should be confirmed from a record rather than inferred from absence.
Expungement is a court process that limits access to eligible records under Kansas law. It is not the same as a dismissal or discharge. The Kansas expungement statute has timing and eligibility rules. Do not reconstruct unavailable expunged or juvenile details from stale copies.
Find Released Logan County Inmates
No official Logan or Thomas 24-hour or 72-hour release feed was found. Begin with the current Thomas roster only to identify present housing and booking data. If the person is gone, follow the custody event rather than calling the disappearance a release.

KASPER Logan Release Search
KASPER is the Kansas Department of Corrections route for people who entered state corrections. Search by KDOC number or combinations of name, birth date, gender, race, and conviction county fields offered by the current interface. The result can show incarceration, parole, postrelease, conditional release, absconder, or discharge information. KASPER warns that data can change and is not a complete case history.
KASPER does not cover an ordinary Thomas County bond-out that never became KDOC custody. Nor does Kansas VINE include KDOC prison residents. Use each system within its jurisdiction. For a state record, the interface’s exact term “Anticipated release date” is a current computation, not a promise.

Logan Recent Release Limits
Thomas County publishes a live jail roster and a separately named intake report. Its navigation does not provide a released, recent-release, 24-hour, or 72-hour option. The intake report must not be renamed as a release list. Comparing roster snapshots also fails to reveal whether an absent person went home or transferred elsewhere.
Register with VINE while the person is still in county-jail custody, call Thomas County Jail, and request the release or movement record. No published local roster-removal schedule or released-record retention period was located. The jail record and court docket remain the defensible path after a live entry disappears.
Logan Post-Release Supervision
Probation is ordered by a court, often instead of or after jail. Parole is discretionary release for eligible sentence categories under the Kansas Prisoner Review Board. Postrelease supervision is a statutory community period following the prison portion of many later Kansas sentences. These are not interchangeable labels.

Kansas VINE covers adult offenders in participating county jails, including the Thomas County serving-jail context. It can send notice of release, transfer, or escape. Those events are different. Register while the person is in custody and call the jail after a notice for the exact disposition and timestamp. VINE is prospective notice, not a permanent historical archive.
For sentenced federal custody, the BOP inmate locator can retain a release date and a released or not-in-BOP-custody result for many people released since 1982. Federal pretrial detainees held for the U.S. Marshals Service lack an equivalent public USMS person locator; use the federal court case and a records request. ICE’s locator covers current detainees and some people released from ICE custody within the prior 60 days. A county-to-ICE move is a transfer, not a community release.

Bond Release Scam Warning
Thomas County publishes a nonexclusive attorney and bonding-company directory and expressly does not endorse the listed businesses. Its official homepage also warns that the sheriff will not call or text demanding money to release a loved one. Confirm any bond instruction with the jail or court using an independently obtained official number.
A bond listing or payment request does not prove release. Obtain the Thomas County release sheet and check the issuing court. The local directory can help identify options, but the recorded jail exit remains the evidence that custody ended or changed.
Which Logan Court Has Records
Oakley has two distinct court paths. Oakley Municipal Court handles city-ordinance matters and meets on the first and third Wednesday at 5 p.m. Logan County District Court handles Kansas criminal cases. Search the court that issued the bond, disposition, or sentence instead of assuming every Oakley arrest appears in the same docket.

Verify the Actual Housing Agency
Logan’s listed detention center cannot be reduced to a standard county-jail assumption. KDOC lists the Oakley detention address, the sheriffs’ directory reports zero jail staff, and Thomas County’s roster shows Logan and Oakley arresting agencies. Ask where the person was physically confined before choosing a roster, VINE enrollment, or records office.

Use Thomas Arrest Agency Fields
The arresting-agency field is the most useful bridge between Logan County and the Colby jail. A Thomas County record may list Logan County Sheriff or Oakley Police even though Thomas County Sheriff houses the person. Capture that field with the booking number when it appears. It helps both offices locate the correct records and clarifies why the arrest county differs from the facility county.
